My brother Stephen and I headed out today with the objective of sking the Hallway and "Reed & Benson" Couloirs. Our goal was to approach them from Little Cottonwood, and skin back out to Little Cottonwood. The weather was forecasted to be partly cloudy with another cold front moving later in the day. We started a little later in the morning, not too worried about getting up for the sunrise. Check out the video at the bottom.

Clouds started to move in around superior by the time we were on top of Flagstaff.

We gained the ridge and made our way out to a high point to the north of Flagstaff which marked the point to drop into the Hallway Couloir. From this point, you can't see the couloir. You just have to drop in from the ridge in faith. A second group on the ridge, also looking for the Hallway, wasn't quite willing to commit. They sure missed out. We contiued down, and soon the entrance came into view. It slimmed down to a tight choke with a mandatory small air. Once through the choke, we were greeted with a comfortably wide couloir that was much longer than expected. 10" of freshies rewarded us the whole way down.

After an awesome exit down the "Tube", we put our skins on, and headed over to the Reed & Benson Couloir. We choose to approach from the bottom since this is notoriously difficult to find the entrance to from the ridge. From the base, Stephen put a quick booter to the top.

The bottom was much more tangible here that it had been in the Hallway. But the ambiance and high walls made it classic none-the-less. Once out of Reed & Benson, it was 1:30 and the sun was on full BROIL. On our skin out to Cardiff Pass, 10 lb. globs of snow plagued the glue on our skins, and it was painfully obvious I hadn't brought enough agua. The ski out to Highway 210 was "survival" skiing at best with a thick sun crust.

It was a great day to ski 2 classic lines and keep workin on my tick list for the end of the season.
